Indio Gigante, meaning “Indian Giant,” was created not long ago in the 1980’s in Brazil by crossing tall hard-feathered Asiatic gamefowl breeds such as Malay and Shamo chickens. The Indio Gigante is the world’s tallest chicken and is currently awaiting recognition as being the first pure breed chicken to originate from Brazil.

Over time and selective breeding, chickens were selected for their unbelievable size and height resulting in the current dinosaur chickens today. With 3ft tall being common in this breed, many Indio Gigante roosters have been recorded in heights longer than 40 inches with a few measuring 4ft tall when fully stretched out horizontally from toenail to beak.

Don’t be intimidated by their ridiculously long legs, necks and huge feet. The Indio Gigante chicken is simply all beak and no bite! Being surprisingly docile and very friendly, they are a pleasure to watch free-range and forage in your backyard. The Indio Gigante chicken breed also gets along well with other chicken breeds.
